PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

 2015 - present PETROLEUM GEOPHYSICIST

Reviewed seismic data and interpretations over eight gas fields owned by a company up for sale.  Documented observations and recommendations in a report, which was well received by the hiring company.

2004 – 2015 MARATHON OIL COMPANY; ADVANCED SENIOR GEOPHYSICIST

Explored for and evaluated new opportunities, both domestic and international.  Areas of focus included the Cotton Valley Lime of East Texas, the Barnett Shale of the Fort Worth Basin, and most recently, the pre-salt section of Gabon, both offshore and onshore.

  •  Identified, quantified, and assessed risk of pre-salt structural leads offshore Lebanon and Cyprus in preparation for upcoming bid rounds. Made isopach maps from seismic data for sand prediction and generated depth surfaces for use in basin modeling. Mapped large discoveries offshore Israel and matched reported resources, which gave confidence in resource estimates for leads. Submitted competitive bids on two Cyprus blocks.

  • Interpreted seismic data and updated play fairway maps east of Carter-Knox Field in the Anadarko Basin, revealing a new area that was highly prospective for the Woodford Shale.  Upon the team’s recommendation, the company subsequently acquired acreage and drilled successful wells, in the core of what is now known as the South Central Oklahoma Oil Province (SCOOP).

  • Mapped the Nubian Sandstone in the NC98 concession of Libya, after a discovery, using the latest seismic and well data, in the vicinity of proposed drilling prospects from Waha, the Libyan operating company.  The work was the basis for convincing the national oil company not to fund the drilling of at least one poor prospect.  Avoiding one dry hole would have saved $30MM ($5MM net to the company).

2003– 2004 ODEGAARD AMERICA; SENIOR GEOPHYSICIST

Inverted 3D seismic data, both full and partial stacks, for client oil companies.  Projects were located offshore Greenland, offshore West Africa, in South Texas, and in the Garden Banks area of the Gulf of Mexico.  Work included tying logs to the seismic, determining the correct wavelets, creating low frequency models, choosing inversion parameters, and quantifying reservoir properties from inversion results and seismic attributes.

 2002 – 2003 DIGITAL PROSPECTORS; GEOPHYSICIST

Interpreted client's large 3D seismic survey in the Gulf Coast of Texas.  Determined probable fluid content of leads from CDP gathers and AVO attributes.

  • Mapped a gas field, quantified seismic anomalies, and recommended several additional drilling locations.  One has been drilled, resulting in a successful well that confirmed the pre-drill interpretation.

  • Refined a high-risk, high-potential lead into a sellable prospect, integrating it with a geologic model.  Studied how rock properties change with depth, made AVO models, and showed that the seismic data indicated the presence of sand and possibly gas.

 1995– 2002 DDD ENERGY; GEOPHYSICIST

Interpreted seismic data from onshore 3D surveys, including tying in well data, fluid substitution, AVO modeling, and 2D modeling.

1991 – 1995 MARATHON OIL COMPANY; GEOPHYSICIST

Generated and evaluated prospects and supported well design and drilling offshore Louisiana, primarily in the Ewing Bank, Mississippi Canyon, and South Pass areas.
